F requently Asked Questions about Skin Scrubbers

1.  What is a Skin Scrubber?

A Skin Srubber utilizes Ultrasound Technology to gently exfoliate the skin of dead skin cells and impurities.  Ultrasound waves help loosen and remove oil, dirt and cellular debris from pores.  Skin scrubbers use the same UltraSound Technology to help better penetrate serums, lotions, creams and masques to a depth where it is more effective and beneficial.

2.  How does a Skin Scrubber Work:

The most important part of the Skin Scrubber is the handpiece.  Inside the handpiece are PZT ceramic crystals attached to either sides of the blade which produces the sound waves/ocillations of the blade.  The quality and number to PTZ cystals have a direct effect on the effectiveness of the Skin Scrubber.  Cheaper machines usually have 2PTZ crystals and the blade is similar and most likely not make of stainless steel.  All of these factors make the scrubber less effective and more prone to wearing out after a few uses.

3.  Are Skin Scrubbers safe:

Skin Scrubbers are safe to use on all skin types, such as clients with Rosacea, sensitive, acneic, or aged skin.  Skin Scrubbers make it easier to achieve a healthier complexion without the redness, swelling and irritation that are often associated iwth microderm treatments.

4.  What type of Skin Scrubbers are there?

There's two main types of Skin Scrubbers on the market: Corded (tabletop & handheld) and Cordless.  (Skin FX Inc. carries only corded Skin Scrubbers)

Corded Tabletop & Handheld  Skin Scrubbers will always be more powerful than the cordless scrubbers simply because they run on electricity from a power outlet.  This allows for a steady flow of electricity.  Tabletop scrubbers also have the capacity for 6 PZT ceramic crystals whereas cordless scrubbers generally have 4 PZT or 2PZT.  More crystals means stronger blade oscillations.  This equates to better exfoliations and faster product permeations.

With the tabletop & handheld corded scrubbers, you also do not need to worry about battery replacements and these devices also have a longer life due to its durability.  However, you will find that a majority of the cordless scrubbers on the market are simply not very powerful.  Cheaper scrubbers are made with cheaper materials and as few as 2 PZT crystals so their blade oscillations are very weak.

The FACE UltraWave has 4 PZT crystals and the UltraSonic Skin Spatula has 6 PZT crystals.

5.  What is the frequency of Ultrasound in a Skin Scrubber?

Skin Scrubbers typically have a frequency range of 18 KHz to 28 KHz (1000 KHz = 1MHz). DO NOT be fooled by companies who tell you the higher the frequency the more powerful the machine.  There are $100.00 handheld skin scrubbers that are high frequency yet they will definately not be as powerful as a machine that is of lower frequency if the $100 machine has has 2 PZT ceramic crystals.  Also, even the most expensive scrubber doesn't necessarily mean it works the best.  Many of our aesthetician customers previously used a $5000.00 Skin Scrubber and have switched over to our UltraSonic Skin Spatula simple because it was more economical.  This is because some tabletop scrubbers require a new handpiece after a few months at more than $400.00 to $500.00 per replacement.  If you see a company that offers a free additional handpiece, this is a good clue that their handpieces do not last for long.

6.  Does the frequency of the Skin Scrubber effect its power?

In most cases, it does not.  Even if a scrubber is 40 KHz, if the quality and settings of the device are not properly done, it will produce very weak blade oscillations and the improper settings could damage the electrical components and shorten the lifespan of the skin scrubber. When purchasing any ultrasound device, it is important to factor in the quality of the device, the customer service the device comes with (both before and after sales), and the availability of servicing and repair for the device after purchase.  Always ask for a warranty and guarantee and make sure servicing is available inside the United States and or Canada and not overseas.

Both our FACE UltraWave and our UltraSonic Skin Spatula uses 25 KHz of ultrasound frequency.

All of the UltraSound and Skin Scrubbers sold by SKIN FX INC. have a 30 day money back guarantee and a one year warranty.

7.  How do I tell if my Skin Scrubber is working?

Apply water to your skin, select the Exfoliation button and glide the blade along the skin.  There should be a fine mist of water that appears when the blade contacts the wet skin surface.

8.  Who shouldn't use a Skin Scrubber?

Those with Pace Makers, or other metallic implants.  Those with Thyroid problems.  Those with infections or open wounds.  Those with tumors.

The bottom line when it comes to Skin Scrubbers,  is that lower prices may look more convenient for the wallet, but if you are stuck with a device that works for only a few months,  requires lots of costly repairs, and can't provide stellar results, the cheap device may end up costing you a lot more.  However, a Skin Scrubber should be looked at as an investment - a quality device could end up paying for itself after a few treatments.
