Rooibos Extract(Aspalathus linearis) - consumed as a health-promoting “tea”, Rooibos has a history of being used to help skin problems, such as eczema or acne. Rooibos Extract has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and Free Radical Scavenging properties, based partly on its unique flavonoid composition including Aspalathin. Rooibos shows anti-allergenic and anti-microbial effects and protects the skin against oxidative stress (anti-aging effect). It is also known to prevent eczema, teeth and mouth mucous membrane inflammations, relieve diaper rash and reduce swelling and inflammation in muscles and joints. These health properties are ascribed to the high level of antioxidants, minerals and polyphenols. Polyphenols act as pigments and sunscreens, as insect attractants and repellents, and as anti-microbials and antioxidants. Laboratory studies have found that rooibos tea contains polyphenol antioxidants, including flavonoids and phenolic acids that are potent free radical scavengers. Flavonoids - The polyphenol antioxidants identified in rooibos include the monomeric flavonoids aspalathin, nothofagin, quercetin, rutin, isoquercitrin, orientin, isoorientin, luteolin, vitexin, isovitexin, and chrysoeriol.
Organic White Tea Extract(Camellia sinensis) - Camellia sinensis is the latin name of the tea plant, an evergreen shrub which grows in sub-tropical regions black, white and green tea comes from the same plant. Tea is made from the youngest and most tender leaves; harvested from the top of the bush, these leaves represent the most nutrient rich part of the plant constituents of tea. All teas contain four principal constituents: vitamins, essential oils, polyphenols and caffeine contains antioxidant (anti-aging) vitamins C, A, B, K and traces of minerals like potassium & calcium polyphenols are responsible for the tea's pungency and flavour.
Green Tea Extract (Camellia sinesis) - from the leaves of the plants dried, cured and extracted into ethyl alcohol. Used in cosmetics to reduce the puffiness around the eyes. Has astringent properties due to tannic acid content. Green tea contains compounds that have an antioxidant effect. It is thought that it has anticancerous effects which have been determined by test tube but not proven in human disease prevention yet. It is thought that the active antioxidants may be able to inhibit the cancer process initiated by the sun's ultraviolet B radiation. AT Case Western Reserve University topical administration of green tea resulted in a reduction of tumors that occurred following UVB radiation.
MSM, Methylsulfonylmethane, is a naturally ocurring nutrient found in plants, meats, dairy products, fruits and vegetables. MSM is therefore found in the normal human diet. It is an odorless, tasteless, white water soluble, crystalline solid in its purified form. MSM supplies sulfur to the body which allows it to heal itself. It produces muscle relaxation and reportly a whold host of beneficial qualities. It has been used with great success in eliminating chronic back pain, muscle pain, repairing cut, scraped, burned and damaged skin. There have been reports of MSM eliminating wrinkles, brown spots, skin tumors and spider veins. MSM is bing used for burn victims and repairing scar tissue. Many people report relief from allergies after using MSM. Other reports indicate that MSM will remove parasites from the body, and help the body to detoxify itself. DMAE Bitartrate (Dimethylaminoethanol) - DMAE has become very popular as a result of Dr. Nicholas Perricone, M.D.'s top-selling book, The Wrinkle Cure, in which he promotes supplementing with DMAE as a treatment for reducing wrinkles. When applied to the skin DMAE would stimulate acetylcholine release which would trigger a response in the muscles of the face. This activity creates a firmer facial tone and less sagging. Tetrasodium EDTA - It is added to cosmetics to work in synergy with preservatives and to improve product stability.
